Michael Fullan may be coming soon to a school district near you.
The man credited with transforming the Canadian province of Ontario into one of the world’s most effective school systems is ready to help California do the same. Fullan, though, would lead the state in a sharply different direction from the forced march that federal officials in Washington, D.C., have led over the past decade.

“I want California to become an alternative model to No Child Left Behind; that would be a great thing to aspire to,” Fullan said last month during an interview in Sacramento.

Fullan’s workshop at the Marriott Harbourfront on April 11th was a great success. Michael partnered with the Ontario Principal’s Association, Nova Scotia Educational Leadership Consortium (NSELC) and Debbie Davidson Consulting to work with over 200 talented and inspired educators. New Pedagogies for Deep Learning—or NPDL—believes every student deserves to learn deeply and to support whole systems to transform learning—schools, provinces, states and countries to want to take action, make a positive impact and grasp opportunities that will lead to success in life.

NPDL works alongside educators and governments to change the role of teachers to that of activators of learning who design learning experiences that build on learner strengths and needs, create new knowledge using real-life problem solving and help all students identify their talents, purpose and passion.
